Production Engineer

JOB VACANCY: Production Engineer

Location: Fordingbridge, Hampshire   Salary: £30,000 – £38,000 (Depending on skills and experience)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Description:

As a Production Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting all stages of our manufacturing processes — from documentation and test development to hands-on problem solving on the shop floor. You will work closely with UK production teams and our Far East manufacturing partners, ensuring products are built efficiently, accurately, and to the highest quality standards.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in electronics and manufacturing who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working collaboratively across departments.

Key Responsibilities can Include:

Manufacturing Support

  • Provide rapid technical support to in-house production teams and subcontract manufacturers to minimise downtime and resolve non-conformances.

  • Support PCBA and final assembly processes, including test setup, troubleshooting, and occasional test execution.

  • Assist with root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys).

Documentation & Process Control

  • Create and maintain build documentation, work instructions, and test specifications.

  • Maintain Bills of Materials (BoMs), concessions, permits, and product changes through the Change Request process.

  • Produce and update 2D and 3D drawings for manufacturing, tooling, and subcontract requirements.

  • Ensure team compliance with COSHH assessments and safety responsibilities.

Tooling, Fixtures & Continuous Improvement

  • Design and build tooling, jigs, fixtures, and equipment to support efficient production.

  • Identify and implement process improvements within the department, supporting Lean initiatives such as 5S.

  • Contribute to the development of new manufacturing processes, test equipment, and test software.

About You

You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy hands-on engineering, problem-solving, and working in a fast-paced production environment. You should be comfortable switching between documentation, process development, design work, and practical shop-floor support.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of electronics at component level and the ability to read circuit diagrams, wiring schedules, mechanical drawings, and Gerber files.
  • Experience in electronic manufacturing & PCBA processes.
  • Basic test and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience using CAD software (2D / 3D) preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with excellent attention to detail.
  • Computer literate, with the ability to use all aspects of MS Office
  • A proactive, friendly, and professional attitude.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S).
  • Understanding of root-cause analysis tools.
  • Experience with 3D printers or a mechanical engineering background.
  • Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems.
  • Awareness of IPC-A-610.
  • Awareness of ESD requirements in the Electronic Industry.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: BTEC Level 3/4, HNC, or equivalent
  • Preferred: HND or Foundation Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering

Would consider someone from a Test Technician or Manufacturing Technician background with the right experience.

Benefits

  • Salary up to £38,000 depending on experience.
  • 36.5 hours per week with flexible start and finish times.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing annually to a maximum of 30 days plus bank holidays.
